Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made a strong statement calling on the United States to grant Ukraine full capabilities to dominate the airspace and lift restrictions on the use of Starlink satellite communications. According to the head of state, technological superiority and a protected sky will serve as a key leverage capable of forcing Russian leader Vladimir Putin to start genuine peace negotiations.

Parallels with the Middle East and Demands on the US

In his commentary to Novyny.LIVE, the Ukrainian leader drew a direct parallel with the situation in the Middle East, recalling Israel's successful experience in repelling threats from Iran. The president emphasized the selectivity of technical capabilities, noting that American technology worked at critical moments to protect other allies, while Kyiv faces barriers. Zelenskyy directly urged Washington to open access and provide the necessary tools to protect the Ukrainian sky, stating that procrastination in this matter stems from a reluctance to act rather than a diplomatic deadlock.

The Threat of Chinese Alternatives and the Technological Factor

The president paid special attention in his speech to the rapid development of alternative space technologies in China. According to him, Beijing is actively approaching the creation of a full-fledged Starlink alternative, which could later be transferred to the Russian side to enhance its military potential. Kyiv is already consulting with Western allies regarding this growing threat. Although European partners are also developing similar communication systems and expressing readiness to help, they have not yet reached the necessary level of project maturity.

Contradictory Data

While the Ukrainian side insists on the need to lift restrictions to achieve a strategic turning point at the front, various assessments of the situation are voiced in the US expert and political sphere. Some American officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, previously cited a diplomatic deadlock as the reason for maintaining existing bans. At the same time, the Ukrainian leadership qualifies this behavior exclusively as political indecision by Washington against the backdrop of active technological rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing.

Prospects for Ukraine's Own Analog

Against the backdrop of ongoing refusals by the US administration to provide full access to satellite internet for military needs and strikes on Russian territory, Ukraine has officially launched the process of creating its own independent satellite communication system. The new domestic project is intended to become a strategic replacement for Starlink and reduce Ukraine's critical dependence on the decisions of foreign technological monopolists amid a protracted armed conflict.
