Vladimir Zelenskyy outlined the key reasons for personnel changes in Ukraine's defense department. The President stated that former Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has the potential to solve systemic problems in the areas of mobilization and army supply. He announced this during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Kyiv.
Priorities of the new minister
According to Zelenskyy, Klymenko's appointment is dictated by the need to synchronize the work of the army and the Ministry of Defense. The President placed special emphasis on reforming the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCCs).
"The issue of mobilization is complex, and everyone must deal with it — both the army and the government," the head of state emphasized. Zelenskyy expressed confidence that Klymenko would be able to eliminate the so-called "shameful moments of bureaucratization" and organize effective supply for the armed forces.
Status of the appointment and Fedorov's resignation
Despite public statements, Zelenskyy clarified that official documents for the appointment of the new Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs have not yet been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
Earlier, the President announced the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of head of the Ministry of Defense. As one of the reasons for the change in leadership, Zelenskyy cited the existence of different visions of waging war between Fedorov and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky. At the same time, the President noted that Fedorov would remain in the team, although the details of his new role were not disclosed.
