The Zhytomyr City Council has announced the implementation of strict energy-saving measures in the city. The decision was made following significant damage to the energy infrastructure caused by a series of strikes on regional power facilities. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing local authorities. According to the city council, the goal of these measures is to reduce the load on the damaged network and prevent further emergency outages.

What is restricted first

According to the city council, all electric transport in Zhytomyr has been temporarily halted, and street lighting has been switched to an economy mode. Local authorities are urging residents to minimize electricity consumption during peak hours to unload the network and prevent cascading failures.

An appeal to businesses

Entrepreneurs have been specifically requested to refrain from using decorative and advertising lighting, facade lighting of buildings, and the operation of electronic screens. Businesses are advised to focus only on essential consumption to avoid putting unnecessary load on the grid during critical moments.

Road safety

Authorities warn that due to power outages, traffic lights in the city may malfunction or be completely depowered. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to be extremely cautious, strictly follow traffic rules, pay attention to road signs, and give priority to pedestrians at intersections.

Context: strikes on the energy system

The introduction of the austerity regime is a consequence of recent attacks on the regional energy infrastructure. On November 3, strikes on energy facilities in Zhytomyr led to mass power outages, and local authorities announced the deployment of "Points of Invincibility" — places where residents can receive basic services and charge their devices. Earlier, on November 1, after a series of strikes on power facilities, more than 650 settlements in the Zhytomyr region were left without electricity.
