On September 12, 2026, two people were killed as a result of Russian shelling in Zhytomyr Oblast. This was announced by Vitaliy Bunetsko, head of the Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration (OMA), in his Telegram channel, as noted by the RBC-Ukraine outlet. According to him, Russian troops "continue to terrorize the region," striking civilian objects throughout the day.
Lethal Strike on Zvyahel
As Bunetsko clarified, about an hour before the statement was published, Russian military forces again struck the city of Zvyahel, hitting a grocery store. As a result of this attack, two people were killed. Details about the condition of the injured and the extent of the damage were not disclosed at the time the material was prepared. The OMA called on residents of the oblast not to disregard safety rules and to be in shelters during air raid alerts.
Night Strike on an Enterprise and Morning Shelling of Gas Stations
According to the head of the OMA, during the night hours an enterprise with foreign investments, located within the oblast, came under Russian military strike. On the morning of September 12, shelling affected infrastructure in two districts: in Zvyahel, one gas station was hit, and in Korosten — two more gas stations. In these cases, Bunetsko said, there were no casualties. The Interfax-Ukraine agency clarified that the enterprise that came under attack is located in the Ovruch hromada, and no casualties were recorded as a result of the night strike.
Authorities' Reaction and Appeal to the Population
In his address, Vitaliy Bunetsko emphasized that Russian military forces continue to deliberately strike civilian objects — from stores to fuel infrastructure. The OMA strongly recommends that residents of Zhytomyr Oblast follow the rules of conduct during air raid alerts, use shelters, and avoid open spaces.
