Vexillology expert Yuriy Savchuk explained in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that the theory of a "flipped" flag with the yellow stripe on top yields to the historical practice of the blue-and-yellow combination.

Yuri Savchuk, director of the Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, explained that the blue-and-yellow combination originated from the Cossack with a musket on a blue field and the Galician lion, while the 'sky over the ears of grain' interpretation only appeared in the early 20th century.
