On the morning of November 1, 2026, atmospheric air quality temporarily deteriorated in the Kyiv region. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the press service of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KRMA). According to the agency, an increased concentration of fine particulate matter was recorded in a number of settlements across the region, although the indicator is already showing a downward trend.
Where the deterioration was recorded
According to the KRMA, a temporary deterioration in air quality with a moderate level of fine dust was recorded in six settlements: Ivankiv, Bila Tserkva, Vyshneve, Obukhiv, Boryspil, and Brovary. In other districts of the region, no excess of permissible chemical and biological substances in the atmospheric air was detected. Specialists note that the main pollutant is fine particulate matter, and its concentration is gradually decreasing.
Weather conditions and radiation background
Weather conditions influence the dynamics of these indicators: cloudy weather with light precipitation contributes to the natural cleansing of the surface atmospheric layer from dust and impurities, while a moderate northwest wind ensures intensive mixing of air masses and rapid dispersion of harmful substances. Due to this, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) across the region remains within safe limits. The gamma radiation level in the Kyiv region corresponds to the natural background.
Context: Second day of drone attacks
The deterioration in air quality coincided with ongoing air attacks. On the night of November 1, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with more than 400 strike drones; air defense forces shot down the majority of the UAVs, but impacts were recorded. This marks the second consecutive day that Russia has struck the Kyiv region, targeting housing, civil infrastructure, and energy facilities. The consequences of the attacks were recorded in six districts of the region: Obukhiv, Boryspil, Brovary, Bucha, Fastiv, and Bila Tserkva. A woman was injured in the Obukhiv district.
Recommendations and dynamics
The administration recommends that residents of the affected settlements temporarily limit their time outdoors and, if necessary, keep windows closed until the dust concentration drops to background levels. As of the morning of November 1, no excess of permissible chemical and biological substances has been recorded in other settlements of the region, and the radiation situation remains within normal limits.
