On the night of July 24, Chernihiv, as well as the Chernihiv and Koriukivka districts, were cut off from power supply. The cause of the massive outage was damage to one of the key energy facilities as a result of an enemy attack.
According to the press service of "Chernihivoblenergo", more than 70,000 subscribers were left without electricity. The company confirmed that the restoration of power supply will begin only after the situation stabilizes and safety is ensured for repair crews.
Warnings about air threat
As early as the evening of July 23, the Air Force of Ukraine reported the movement of unmanned aerial vehicles towards the Chernihiv region. UAVs were detected in the direction of Mena and Slavutych. The official representation of the PS in Telegram warned residents of the region about the danger in the sky several times — the last message arrived around 23:00 on Thursday.
Recurring enemy tactics
This is not the first strike on the region's energy infrastructure. A few days ago, the Russians already struck an energy facility in the Chernihiv region — at that time, more than 100,000 consumers were left without power. Recently, pressure on northern Ukraine has noticeably intensified.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently confirmed that the Russian side has plans to escalate hostilities against the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Attacks on energy facilities are becoming part of this strategy — aimed at destabilizing the lives of the population and creating additional difficulties for the work of utility services.
Energy workers continue to monitor the situation and are ready to start restoration work as soon as the situation allows. Residents are advised to remain calm and follow the official instructions of local authorities.
