As of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, price tags on a range of essential products have changed in Ukraine's largest supermarket chains — Silpo, ATB, Novus and Auchan. According to RBC-Ukraine monitoring, the sharpest increases were recorded for chicken eggs and sunflower oil, while separate promotions on bread have ended. Meanwhile, prices for buckwheat and small-volume milk remained stable in most chains, while Novus, conversely, launched a new discount on ultra-pasteurized milk.
Bread: promotion ended at ATB, base prices held
Among baked goods, the key change occurred in the ATB chain: the promotion on "Kristynopil" toast bread (300 g) has ended, as a result of which its price rose from 20.90 UAH to 24.80 UAH. In the other checked chains — Silpo, Novus and Auchan — prices on basic bread items did not change over the course of a day. Thus, the price increase is targeted in nature and is linked exclusively to the end of a promotional campaign, rather than to a revision of the base price list.
Eggs: widespread increase across most chains
The most noticeable price jump was recorded for chicken eggs. At ATB, a dozen of C1-category eggs rose from 62.40 UAH to 68.50 UAH, an increase of 6.10 UAH per pack. At Silpo, the item from the "Sytyi Dvir" producer (C2 category) jumped from 41.99 UAH to 52.24 UAH after the promotion ended — a rise of more than 10 UAH per dozen. The only exception remains Auchan, where the lowest price on the market is held — 4.40 UAH per piece, or 44.00 UAH per dozen. Experts previously linked the volatility of the egg market to logistics disruptions against the backdrop of strikes on warehouse infrastructure, which, according to industry analysts, can extend delivery times by up to a week.
Sunflower oil and milk: end of discounts and new promotions
In the vegetable oils segment, promotional campaigns have ended in two of the largest chains. "Svoya Liiniia" oil (0.5 l) at ATB returned to its base price of 53.13 UAH after the promotional price had been 50.70 UAH. At Silpo, "Premia" oil (0.5 l) rose from 52.99 UAH to 56.49 UAH. The picture in the dairy segment is more balanced: prices for 450 g milk at ATB (21.30 UAH) and Silpo (21.49 UAH) remained stable. Meanwhile, Novus launched a new promotion on 3.2% fat ultra-pasteurized milk (500 g) — its price was reduced from 43.49 UAH to 34.99 UAH, which is 19% below the base price.
Buckwheat: stability amid general volatility
Prices for buckwheat groats did not change over the course of a day in any of the checked chains. The lowest price is offered by Silpo thanks to an active promotion on "Premia" groats (1 kg) — 54.99 UAH. Cheap non-promotional options were recorded at ATB (65.90 UAH) and Novus (65.99 UAH). The spread between the minimum and maximum price within a chain is about 11 UAH, which is typical for this product segment.
Contradictory data
In parallel with rising prices on eggs, oil and bread, a number of Ukrainian media outlets published materials on September 2 stating that two basic products had become cheaper in supermarkets. At the same time, RBC-Ukraine monitoring records the opposite trend for key items. The discrepancy may be explained by the fact that the reports refer to different product categories or to data collected at different times of day. As of the morning of September 2, a confirmed increase was recorded specifically for eggs, sunflower oil and toast bread at ATB, while price reductions on individual items were not confirmed in the provided monitoring data.

According to experts, price tag changes against the backdrop of strikes on warehouse infrastructure may be accompanied by an increase in delivery times to stores of up to seven days, which creates additional pressure on pricing. At the international level, Dutch supermarket chains are warning of a possible 10% rise in food prices next year, which indirectly points to the persistent inflationary pressure in the food sector in Europe and, as a consequence, in the external markets on which the import component of the Ukrainian market depends.
