As of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Ukrainian retail chains are showing overall price stability across most categories of basic food products. Monitoring conducted by RBC-Ukraine in the "Silpo", ATB, Novus and "Auchan" chains records that key items — sunflower oil and bakery products — have not changed in price in any of the stores surveyed. Nevertheless, notable fluctuations are observed in the segments of chicken eggs, buckwheat and milk, which may affect consumer budgets in the coming weeks.
Eggs: the most noticeable price reshuffle
The main change in the supermarkets' price map was the replacement of the cheapest chicken egg item. In the "Silpo" chain, eggs at the minimum price of 39.19 UAH per dozen have disappeared — this offer was previously considered one of the most affordable on the market. At present, the minimum price of a C1-category pack in "Silpo" is 59.91 UAH per dozen. Thus, the gap between the old and new price exceeds 20 hryvnias, which is a significant jump for a basic product. The most advantageous per-unit offer on the market remains "Auchan", where eggs are sold for 5.80 UAH each, or 58.00 UAH per dozen. This is 1.91 UAH cheaper than "Silpo"'s minimum offer and sets the benchmark for comparison in the other chains.
Buckwheat: promotional price keeps "Silpo" in the lead
Prices for buckwheat kernels as of September 23 have not changed compared to the previous day, indicating stabilization in this category. The cheapest position on the market is held by "Silpo", where buckwheat is offered at a promotional price of 54.99 UAH per kilogram. It is important to note that this price applies specifically within the framework of a discount promotion, which means the price may return to its base level after the promo period ends. In the other chains, buckwheat is generally more expensive, although the exact figures for ATB, Novus and "Auchan" are not highlighted as leading positions in the RBC-Ukraine review.
Bread and sunflower oil: complete price calm
In the category of bakery products and sunflower oil, absolute stability has been recorded: prices have not changed in any of the four chains surveyed. This is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of general inflationary pressure and seasonal fluctuations typical of the autumn period. For the consumer, this means that everyday basic items — bread and cooking oil — retain a predictable cost, allowing weekly budget planning without accounting for additional risks in these categories.
Milk: promotional formats and small packs
In the dairy category, the most affordable options remain small packs of 400–450 g. "Silpo" offers the lowest price of 19.99 UAH for such a pack, while ATB offers 20.40 UAH. The difference of 41 kopecks is minimal, but it may matter for regular purchases. The promotional offer from Novus deserves separate attention: a 900 g pack of milk is sold for 34.99 UAH instead of the base price of 53.99 UAH, giving a discount of almost 35%. Such promo formats allow shoppers to save when buying large volumes, but require careful tracking of the promotion's validity period.
Context and outlook
Comparing the current data with earlier RBC-Ukraine publications allows us to trace the dynamics: as late as June, buckwheat in some chains was offered at 15 UAH per kilogram, while bread showed a trend toward price increases. By September, the situation with buckwheat had stabilized at around 55 UAH/kg in promotional format, while bread had returned to price equilibrium. The rise in egg prices recorded this week continues a trend previously discussed in the context of seasonal price increases — according to UNIAN, in certain periods eggs had already risen by 30%, with retail chains responding with comments about possible further price revisions. At present, however, retail chains are not announcing mass price increases in other categories, and the overall picture remains manageable for consumers.
