Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Federation has suffered colossal human and material losses. According to official data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, by October 2026, the total estimated personnel losses of the Russian army reached 1,545,950 servicemen. Over the past day alone, this figure increased by another 1,690 people. The publication of these large-scale data was symbolically timed to coincide with the birthday of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, who turned 74.
Massive Daily Losses of Equipment and Weapons
In addition to manpower, the Russian army continues to suffer record losses in military equipment and weapons. Over the past day, units of the Ukraine Defense Forces eliminated 1,890 operational-tactical level unmanned aerial vehicles, 577 units of automotive equipment, and 51 artillery systems. Such intensive destruction of the material base significantly undermines the offensive potential of the occupation forces in various sectors of the front. In addition, over the past day, 12 ground-based robotic systems, 8 multiple rocket launchers, 5 units of special equipment, 4 armored combat vehicles, and 2 air defense systems were successfully destroyed. Military experts note that the technological load on Russian rear supply services has increased manifold, given the rate of equipment consumption on the front line.
Assessment of the Conflict Scale and Militarization of Society
The Ukrainian General Staff emphasizes that the war unleashed by Vladimir Putin is the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II. According to the military leadership of Ukraine, the aggressive policy of the Kremlin dictator is steadily leading the Russian state to a deep internal crisis and isolation, effectively destroying the country's prospects for decades to come.Despite the catastrophic figures of irrevocable losses, the military-political leadership of Russia does not intend to halt hostilities and continues covert and overt mobilization of the population. In the fall, Russia plans another conscription for regular service, as part of which about 120,000 people are planned to be drafted. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that the Kremlin has actually moved to covert additional mobilization to fill the manpower deficit at the front.
Contradictory Data
The issue of actually calculating losses in the current conflict remains a subject of sharp discussions and information warfare. Official reports from the Ukrainian General Staff are based on operational calculations of defense forces on the ground and include both killed and heavily wounded occupiers. At the same time, the Russian side traditionally refrains from publishing current data on its own losses, and independent journalistic investigations confirm only a small fraction of the names of the dead.
Moreover, official Moscow is taking unprecedented measures to conceal the scale of the human tragedy. Recently, the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation classified statistics on lawsuits recognizing military personnel as dead or missing in action. For comparison, a year earlier, the number of such lawsuits was recorded at a record high of 17.5 thousand, after which government agencies completely closed access to this critical statistics.
