As of October 2026, Russia possesses an arsenal of up to 700 ballistic missiles and several thousand cruise missiles of various types, along with over six thousand strike drones. These figures were released by the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in response to a request from NV. Intelligence also estimates the current production capacity of the Russian military-industrial complex at over 200 cruise and ballistic missiles per month, of which up to 110 units are ballistic systems.

Ballistic Missiles and the Iskander-M Complex

Stocks of 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missiles are estimated at approximately 115 units. Monthly, the defense industry produces about 65 such missiles, which, according to GUR, corresponds to the established production plan. Concurrently, Russia is developing a modernized missile system whose range, according to preliminary estimates, will be 550–700 km compared to the current 500 km. In addition, the arsenal of RM-48U anti-aircraft missiles, adapted for strikes against ground targets and used within S-300PM and S-400 systems, numbers about 400 units with a monthly output of about 40 missiles.

Cruise Missiles: Kh-101, Kalibr, and Production Issues

The primary tool for massive missile strikes remains the Kh-101 cruise missiles. Their monthly production plan exceeds 80 units, and at some enterprises, actual production volumes even surpass planned indicators. At the same time, technical malfunctions have been recorded during the production of Kh-101: issues arise with missiles detaching from aircraft carriers, causing individual batches to be returned to factories to eliminate defects. Stocks of 3M14 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles exceed 450 units, and monthly output is about 29 missiles.

Anti-Ship and Hypersonic Weapons

The arsenal of 3M55 Onyx anti-ship missiles, including modernized versions, numbers over 600 units. To increase combat efficiency against ground targets, these missiles were equipped with more powerful warheads and an increased flight range. Over the first seven months of 2026, Russian industry produced over 55 such missiles. The number of 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles exceeds 120 units, but their production rates remain relatively low: over the same period, more than 30 missiles were produced. The production of Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aero-ballistic missiles has been temporarily suspended due to target accuracy issues; freed-up capacities have been reoriented toward producing other types of ballistic weapons.

Strategic Reserve and Logistics

GUR notes that a significant portion of the produced weapons is directed by Russia into the strategic reserve, including for the subsequent replenishment of naval fleets' arsenals. According to intelligence assessments, the high effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense forces forces the Russian side to accumulate new missiles, primarily Kalibrs, rather than using them in current operations.

Kyiv's Reaction and Expansion of US Support

Against the backdrop of the published data, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously warned that Russia's military facilities are aimed not only against Ukraine but also against Europe. Simultaneously, it became known that the United States is ordering over a thousand new ERAM cruise missiles for Ukraine, which should significantly expand Kyiv's capabilities to strike deep into enemy territory.
