The situation regarding transport infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital remains tense following a series of overnight strikes launched by Russian forces. The Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge in Kyiv has been completely closed to traffic as a result of another shelling that caused damage to structures and the roadway. At the same time, other crossings, including the Darnytskyi Bridge, are operating normally, ensuring the minimum necessary connection between the left and right banks of the city.
KMDA statements and aftermath response
Petro Panteleev, Acting First Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, commented on the current state of transport arteries during a special briefing. According to him, the timeframe for the full restoration of the Southern Bridge cannot be named yet, as it directly depends on the conclusions of specialized experts and engineers assessing the extent of damage to the supports and metro protective barriers.
Alternative routes and logistics
City authorities claim readiness to promptly redirect passenger flows using already established schemes. In particular, bypass routes that were previously used during periods of metro operation restrictions are being engaged. Transport services are constantly monitoring public transport occupancy and plan to deploy additional buses to prevent a transport collapse.
Contradictory data
While official KMDA representatives assure citizens that alternative logistical routes have been developed and resources are sufficient to redistribute passenger traffic, independent transport experts express serious concern. According to analysts, the full or partial blockade of key bridge crossings creates critical pressure on the remaining bridges, which inevitably leads to massive traffic jams and could paralyze the economic life of the capital during rush hours.
