The administration urged residents to be attentive to changes in air quality and, upon detecting the characteristic smell of smoke, to follow a set of simple preventive rules aimed at minimizing the impact of polluted air on the body.

Connection to the Night Attack and the Scale of the Fires

The context for the Kyiv City Council's warning is set by the situation that developed following a massive missile attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, the consequences of which were previously reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) and a number of Ukrainian media outlets. According to monitoring sensor data, air quality indicators in Kyiv's southwestern outskirts remain within normal limits, that is, in the satisfactory range. This means that there is currently no direct health threat for most city residents. At the same time, the administration noted that people with heightened sensitivity to air pollution, as well as those suffering from respiratory system diseases, may experience slight discomfort even with minor smog.

New Metro Operating Rules Under Air Threat

Particularly noteworthy is that, as of September 10, 2026, updated rules for the operation of the Kyiv metro, tied to the level of air threat, have been in effect. At the yellow danger level, the metro's "green" line operates without restrictions, including across the South Bridge, ensuring normal connectivity between the right and left banks. When the level switches to red, movement on the above-ground section is fully suspended, and trains begin to run separately: between Syrets and Vydubychi stations on one line, and between Slavytch and Krasnyi Khutir on the other. These measures are intended to ensure passenger safety in the event of an escalation of the threat associated with air attacks and their consequences, including smog.

In its appeal, the Kyiv City Council listed the basic measures recommended when the smell of smoke or burning is detected in an apartment or outdoors.
