Kyiv residents have received a significant reprieve regarding utility payments. The city authorities have decided not to approve the sharp increase in water costs proposed by Kyivvodokanal. Instead of the planned nearly 90 hryvnias per cubic meter, the tariff for the population will remain at 63.79 hryvnias.
Rejection of the enterprise's economic calculation
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the city leadership did not approve the economically justified amount calculated by PJSC "AK Kyivvodokanal". The enterprise previously insisted on raising the tariff to 88.90 hryvnias per cubic meter. In justifying their demands, the utility company pointed to the critical growth in electricity costs, fuel and lubricants, and the need to repair worn-out networks.
However, the final decision was made in favor of a more lenient option. The current cost of centralized water supply and sewage services corresponds to the tariff approved by the National Commission for State Regulation in the Energy and Utilities Sector (NKREKU) back in 2024.
Financial consequences for families
Despite rejecting the maximum increase, Kyiv residents will still have to face rising expenses. The administration's statement clarifies that, taking into account average cold water consumption, the water bill for a family of three will increase by 200–300 hryvnias.
General context of price increases in Ukraine
The situation in the capital looks relatively calm against the backdrop of a nationwide trend. Since July 1, water tariffs have risen in many cities of Ukraine, with increases in some regions reaching double or even triple the previous rates. The greatest price hikes were recorded in Uman, Pavlohrad, and Berdychiv. In Vinnytsia, the cost of the service soared threefold, creating a serious burden on the budgets of residents of these settlements.
