The pharmaceutical company 'Darnitsa', in partnership with the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, has unveiled a social installation at Kontraktova Square in Kyiv. The project is timed to coincide with World Heart Day and aims to remind Ukrainians of the critical importance of regularly checking their cardiovascular health amidst ongoing chronic stress.
Context and Purpose of the Social Campaign
The installation is built on a contrast with the daily digital habits of modern Ukrainians. It draws attention to things beyond our personal control that we nevertheless check constantly: from air raid alert maps and weather forecasts to messenger notifications and social media feeds. The organizers urge citizens to reflect on whether they pay equal attention to what matters most—the condition of their own hearts.
Statistics and Medical Risks During Wartime
According to official data from the Ministry of Health and the Public Health Center, cardiovascular diseases account for 68% of all deaths in the country. The full-scale war, chronic psychological stress, and constant tension have significantly worsened the overall statistics. Specialists from the Heart Institute note that heart attacks and strokes have become 'younger' by 10-15 years, while about 40% of non-combat losses among military personnel are attributed to acute cardiovascular conditions.
Prevention and Early Diagnostics Tools
Medical professionals emphasize that 80% of severe cardiovascular pathologies can be prevented if proactive measures are taken in time. The major challenge lies in the fact that many heart conditions develop almost asymptomatically for years. As part of the 'Check the Main Thing' campaign, a special online risk calculator was launched, allowing individuals to assess their health status through simple questions about age, lifestyle, and family history, helping them decide when to visit a doctor.
