On the morning of September 23, 2026, Kyiv came under a massive drone attack that unfolded in several waves: air raid alerts were sounded repeatedly throughout the night and during the morning. According to official data from Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, 8 people were injured as a result of the strikes, and one of the wounded, hospitalized in critical condition, died in the hospital. As of 10:00, 4 people were being treated in the inpatient wards of city hospitals, two of them in critical condition. Strike on fuel infrastructure

According to him, one railway worker, returning home from his shift, sustained shrapnel injuries and was taken to a hospital. Due to repeated threats, staff had to be evacuated to shelters, which affected train schedules. Kyiv Central Railway Station, according to Ukrzaliznytsia, was not damaged; at the yellow alert level, boarding and alighting of passengers is carried out only from the underground premises of the station and Darnytsia station. Peretskyi urged passengers to monitor flight statuses online and reminded that at any alert level, railway facilities must be vacated.

Consequences in the Kyiv region

In parallel with the attack on the capital, the Kyiv region was also struck during the night. According to the State Emergency Service (SES), a production and warehouse building was damaged in the Bucha district; at another address, rescuers extinguished a fire involving a car and a metal cabin on the territory of a municipal enterprise; an administrative building was also damaged, and a fire was put out at a warehouse. The initial reports on the aftermath of the attack contained wording referring to "casualties" in the plural, whereas according to updated data from the Kyiv city administration, one fatality has been confirmed — a person who died in the hospital after sustaining injuries. The number of injured was also given in different figures: 8 people according to Klitschko's overall count and 4 people who were in inpatient wards as of 10:00. The discrepancy is explained by the changing condition of the injured and the timing of data recording, although emergency services promised to provide final figures once their work at the scene was completed.
