From September 10, 2026, an updated public transport schedule takes effect in Kyiv, linked to the shortening of the curfew. According to the Kyiv City Council's Department of Transport Infrastructure, passenger transport in the capital will operate for longer, with the main surface transport routes carrying the highest passenger volumes continuing to run for an average of one additional hour.
What changes from September 10
The curfew in Kyiv now runs from 01:00 to 05:00, which has allowed operators' schedules to be adjusted. The updated schedule for each specific surface public transport route has been published on the website of the municipal enterprise "Kyivpasstrans," and passengers are advised to plan their trips based on it. The changes primarily affected high-traffic lines, where demand for evening and night travel is greatest.
How the metro will now operate
All stations of the Kyiv metro will also operate for one hour longer in passenger service mode. The schedule for stations functioning as shelters remains unchanged. To illustrate: the "Universytet" station, which previously admitted passengers until 22:38, will be open for entry until 23:38 from September 10. The same logic applies to other stations on the network.
Rules for the "green" and "red" lines
From September 10, trains on the surface section of the metro's "green" line will run without restrictions during a yellow threat level. Passengers will be able to either extend their journey or, at their own discretion, leave the carriage and use the station as a shelter. If a red-level air alert is declared, train movement on the surface section of the "green" line will be suspended. The operating mode of the "red" line during yellow and red air threats remains unchanged.
Advice for passengers
The Department of Transport Infrastructure recommends that passengers orient themselves by the time a station closes for entry, rather than by the schedule of individual trains. The schedule has been designed so that passengers who enter a station before it closes can travel to any other metro station. This reduces the risk of being left in the system after its official end of service.
Context: bridges, business, and mass events
From September 10, the rules for metro operation and traffic on bridges during air alerts in Kyiv will also change. Businesses will be able to continue operating provided safety requirements are met, while the holding of mass events without adequate shelter will be prohibited. Thus, the adjustment of the transport schedule becomes part of a broader package of measures aimed at adapting city life to new threat levels.
