On the afternoon of October 10, a critical situation arose in the public transport system of the Ukrainian capital. The Kyiv Metro was forced to completely halt train traffic and escalator operations across all underground lines due to a sudden loss of voltage.
Causes of the Transport Collapse
According to representatives of the city administration and specialized services, the power supply failure was caused by issues at external supply substations. The situation is exacerbated by the consequences of massive attacks on the region's critical infrastructure.
In addition to problems in the underground system, severe power outages have been recorded in Kyiv and the region. Specifically, emergency power cuts occurred in the Pivdenna Borshchahivka residential area, as well as in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region.
Mitigation and Restoration Efforts
Power engineers and emergency crews are urgently working to restore stable power to the external substations to restart train operations as soon as possible. Citizens are advised to use ground public transport routes that duplicate the metro lines.
