From September 15 to 18, 2026, partial traffic restrictions will be introduced on the South Bridge in Kyiv. This was announced by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCRA), citing data from the municipal enterprise "Kyivavtodorost." The restrictions will affect one direction of traffic and will last four days, during which scheduled repairs of the asphalt concrete pavement will be carried out on the bridge.

What Changes for Drivers from September 15

According to the municipal enterprise "Kyivavtodorost," repair work will be carried out in the first lane of traffic, which will be closed to traffic for the duration of the work. To ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, vehicles will be routed via the far-left lane during the repairs. As a result, the bridge's capacity in the direction of the work will be reduced, which may lead to increased travel times and local congestion during peak hours. The KCRA has asked residents and visitors of the capital to bear with the temporary inconvenience and to plan their routes in advance.

Progress of Repair Work and Traffic Organization

In accordance with the municipal enterprise's explanation, during the specified period, specialists will be restoring the asphalt concrete pavement of the roadway. The work is concentrated in the first lane, while traffic is redirected to the far-left lane. The restriction is in effect from September 15 to 18, inclusive. The traffic organization scheme has been published on the KCRA's official website (kyivcity.gov.ua) and is available to inform drivers.

South Bridge: The Capital's Key Artery

The South Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Dnipro River, considered the tallest in Kyiv: its pylon stands 133 meters high. The structure is located at the junction of the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the city and is part of the international road M03 — E40. The Syretsko-Pecherska, so-called "green" line of the Kyiv Metro also runs across the bridge. Given the strategic importance of the structure for the capital's transport network, even a temporary reduction in capacity requires careful planning on the part of drivers.

Context: Bridge and Metro Operating Mode During Air Alarms

The repair work on the South Bridge is taking place against the backdrop of the order in place in Kyiv for organizing traffic and metro operations under regular air alarms. Previously, the capital's authorities explained how the operating mode of bridges and the metro changes when "yellow" and "red" threat levels are declared. Drivers using the South Bridge on these days are advised to take into account both the repair restrictions and any possible changes to the traffic mode in the event of an alarm, in order to avoid delays.
