On the night of October 27, Russia twice attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, one of the missiles hit the Southern Bridge, damaging the surface infrastructure of the metro. In addition, an administrative building in the Podilskyi district was hit. Specialists are currently working at the scene to assess the extent of structural damage.

Traffic on the Southern Bridge is closed

Traffic on the Southern Bridge has been completely suspended while experts inspect the condition of the structure. Vitali Klitschko published the first photos of the aftermath of the strike on his Telegram channel, showing damage to the bridge. At the time of publication, there was no information on when the facility will be reopened to transport.

Restrictions on the green metro line

Due to the consequences of the attack, train traffic on the green line of the Kyiv Metro has been suspended between the "Osokorky" and "Chervonyi Khutir" stations. According to city services, traffic on the line is limited to the section between "Syrets" and "Vydubychi" stations. To compensate, bus routes No. 22 and No. 91 have been rerouted via the Darnytskyi Bridge.

The bridge attacked not for the first time

The Southern Bridge has been targeted repeatedly: according to media reports, earlier in October, the structure was already subjected to attacks, after which it was closed to motor vehicles and the metro. Transport experts noted that such strikes on the capital's bridges can be used to create unbearable living conditions, weaken economic activity, paralyze the work of individual institutions, and pose risks to emergency services.

What is known about the consequences

Official information on the timeline for resuming traffic on the bridge and the affected metro section was not available at the time of publication. According to available data, as a result of the night attack, in addition to the bridge, the surface metro infrastructure and an administrative building in the Podilskyi district were damaged. City services continue to inspect the damage and determine the further procedure for restoring traffic.
