According to Maksym Ostapenko, General Director of the National Preserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra", speaking on Radio Culture, funds for these urgent stabilization works have already been allocated from the state reserve fund. The protective structure is designed to shield the damaged structure throughout the winter and establish proper conditions for full-scale restoration.
Scale of Destruction and Restoration Timeline
The drone strike on the cathedral occurred on the night of June 15. The roof suffered the most significant damage, estimated by the reserve administration at around 80 percent. Although emergency repairs were conducted within the first week, comprehensive restoration will require systematic efforts. Ostapenko noted that rebuilding the Dormition Cathedral could take up to two years, provided funding remains stable.
