The night of July 27 to 28 marked a time of large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory. The Russian side deployed an unprecedented number of attack drones, attempting to strike key targets. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported extensive operations to repel the threat, which lasted from 6:00 PM until dawn.
Scale of the aerial invasion
According to data provided by the AFU and published by RBC-Ukraine, the enemy launched 131 attack drones against the country. The attacking side utilized various types of aircraft, complicating the interception task. These included:
- Shahed-type drones, including jet modifications;
- "Gerbera" drones;
- "Italmas" drones;
- "Parody" mimicry drones.
The attack was geographically dispersed: targets were hit in the north, south, center, and east of Ukraine, indicating an attempt to stretch the enemy's air defense forces.
Performance of Ukrainian air defenses
Ukrainian air defense systems demonstrated high effectiveness under conditions of a mass attack. As of 8:00 AM on July 28, Ukrainian forces had shot down or neutralized 107 enemy drones. This constitutes the overwhelming majority of the total number of launched targets.
However, despite the heroic efforts of the air defense crews, some drones breached the defenses. It was recorded that 16 attack drones hit 9 different locations. Additionally, debris from downed aircraft was found at 6 other points, which may also indicate partial damage to targets or debris falling in residential areas. The full scale of the consequences and the nature of the damage are being clarified.
Situation in Kyiv and intelligence operations
Particular attention during the attack was drawn to the situation in the capital. On the night of July 28, the Russians attempted to attack Kyiv, resulting in powerful explosions in the city. Local authorities declared an air raid, urging residents to immediately take shelter in safe places.
Parallel to the aerial attacks, other military operations continue. Recently, it was reported that fighters from the "Budanov Units" eliminated three pilots of the Russian "Rubikon" unit. The incident occurred in the temporarily occupied Dniprorudne, confirming the activity of Ukrainian intelligence and special services even deep in the enemy's rear.
