In August 2026, Mercedes-Benz unveiled an updated C-Class that underwent a massive technical overhaul, marking the most significant update in the model's history. While the external changes are noticeable, they take a backseat to the deep modernizations under the hood and in the digital components. The updated sedan, set to arrive at dealerships in the first half of 2027, is positioned as a car ready for the era of artificial intelligence.

Design: Star Aesthetics and New Lighting Technologies

Visually, the car has undergone significant changes to the front end. The radiator grille is now adorned with numerous small chrome stars, while the central star and the grille trim feature illumination. External changes are not limited to the car's "face": it has received new bumpers, updated front and rear lights with characteristic star-shaped light graphics, and new wheel rim options.

Particular attention deserves the optional Digital Light headlights. The new system uses micro-LEDs to create a larger and more detailed light field while consuming up to 50% less energy. The color palette has introduced two new shades — Miami Silver Metallic and Moody Sky Grey Metallic. For the first time for the C-Class, the AMG Line Plus package is available, including the Night Package, glossy black elements, and sport seats with red stitching.

Digital Revolution: MB.OS and AI Integration

The main novelty of the model is the new MB.OS operating system. It features a redesigned interface and expanded over-the-air update capabilities. Powerful language models have been integrated into the system: ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini. The proprietary MBUX Virtual Assistant can now support multi-step dialogues, remember conversation context, and answer general questions.

The assistant can search for locations, find music based on song lyrics fragments or approximate descriptions. Mercedes envisions the driver having a sort of digital passenger always ready to help. The equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch vertical central display. Navigation uses Google services, and an optional augmented reality projection display is available.

Engineering Solutions and Powertrains

The powertrain has been modernized to improve efficiency. The American version received an updated 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The gasoline engine produces 255 hp and 400 N·m, while the integrated starter-generator adds another 23 hp and 205 N·m. An electric auxiliary compressor has been added to improve low-end torque response. The overboost system allows for a temporary increase in output by an additional 27 hp.

Engineers have retuned the suspension and added sound insulation, reducing the drag coefficient to 0.24. Eight cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors handle the work of the assistants. The MB.DRIVE Parking Assist 360 system is now standard equipment, including the function of automatic reverse movement along a portion of the traveled route.

European Specifics and Electrification

The European lineup will be broader than the American one. In addition to gasoline and diesel engines, it will include the C-Class Estate wagon and the plug-in hybrid C 400 e 4MATIC. The latter received a traction battery with a capacity of 19.53 kWh and is capable of traveling up to 100 km on pure electricity. Charging is supported at up to 11 kW (AC) and 55 kW (DC). European buyers have access to a fully steerable chassis with rear-wheel steering, which reduces the turning circle to 10.64 meters.
