The head of the agency sees no reason to doubt the success of SpaceX's ambitious project to create orbital data centers.
Isaacman argues his confidence by stating that if Elon Musk and his team are investing significant resources into development, the project has real prospects. According to the head of NASA, SpaceX has repeatedly proven its ability to realize engineering tasks that were previously considered impossible.
Critical role in the Artemis program
The importance of SpaceX for NASA's current and future plans is hard to overestimate. Isaacman emphasized that the program to return American astronauts to the Moon directly depends on the capabilities of the private company. It is SpaceX that is responsible for creating the lunar version of the Starship spacecraft, which is set to become the primary vehicle for delivering crews to the surface of the satellite as part of the Artemis program.
The head of the agency noted that SpaceX possesses a powerful financial base and one of the strongest engineering teams in the industry. These factors allow the company to implement large-scale projects faster than competitors.
"We can't do this without them. The fact that they are currently very well capitalized is fantastic, not to mention the engineering talent working there," Isaacman stated, adding that there is no doubt Elon Musk is the greatest entrepreneur and engineer in modern history.
Technical progress of Starship
Against the backdrop of discussions on prospective projects, such as orbital server farms, the company continues active work on current tasks. Earlier, SpaceX published four new images of the Starship spacecraft (Ship 40) taken during its 13th test flight. This data confirms the continuous cycle of testing and improving technologies necessary for both lunar missions and commercial initiatives in space.
