Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the appointment of Yevhen Khmara as Acting Minister of Defense. The main task of the new head will be to coordinate and control long-range operations of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
Experience and Previous Activities
Yevhen Khmara previously headed the SBU's Special Operations Center "Alpha". According to the President, it is this structure that demonstrates the highest results in destroying the enemy at the front. "Alpha" consistently ranks first in monthly reports on combat effectiveness.
Khmara was directly responsible for organizing and conducting long-range SBU operations. This experience, in Zelenskyy's opinion, makes him the ideal candidate to manage the relevant direction in the Ministry of Defense.
Priorities of the New Position
According to the President's statement, an agreement has already been reached between him and Khmara on key areas of work. Control over long-range operations of the Security Forces will be the absolute priority for the new Acting Minister.
In addition to external operations, Khmara will be responsible for internal control within the Defense Forces structures. Zelenskyy emphasized that Khmara has sufficient experience in the security sector to prevent situations that could damage the reputation of the department.
Additional Personnel Decisions
On the same day, the President announced a reboot of Ukrainian foreign missions. Discussion of this issue is scheduled for tomorrow with the participation of the Head of the President's Office, Kyrylo Budanov, and the diplomatic team.
