On the night of November 8, 2026, the energy system of the Dnipropetrovsk region was once again subjected to a massive strike. According to DTEK, as a result of the attack on the region's energy facilities, more than 600,000 consumers in five districts of the region and the city of Dnipro were left without electricity. This was reported by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Ganzha, and representatives of the DTEK energy company, as cited by RBC-Ukraine.
Scale of the blackout: five districts and Dnipro
Consumers were left without electricity in the Dniprovsky, Kamianske, Samara, Pavlohrad, and Synelnykove districts, as well as in Dnipro itself. The total number of people cut off from power exceeded 600,000. DTEK confirmed that critical energy facilities were damaged overnight, leading to cascading outages throughout the region. Power engineers have begun restoration work, but according to them, their activities are significantly complicated by repeated attacks, which prevent them from safely approaching damaged lines and substations.
Critical infrastructure switched to generators
Hospitals, medical facilities, and other critical infrastructure objects in the Dnipropetrovsk region have been switched to backup generators. DTEK emphasized that the primary task for the power engineers is to restore power to critical infrastructure—hospitals, water and heat supply, and communication facilities. Only after stabilizing the situation at these facilities will the restoration of power supply to residential buildings and commercial consumers begin.
Energy system under attack for several consecutive days
The attack on the night of November 7–8 was not the first in recent days. As early as the evening of November 7, as a result of repeated strikes, more than 60,000 consumers in Dnipro were left without power. The Regional Military Administration reported at the time that repair work would begin as soon as the security situation permitted. Prior to that, on November 6–7, drones attacked Dnipro and the Samara region, resulting in fires in private houses and infrastructure elements. On the night of November 4, when Rivne, the Ternopil region, and Dnipro came under attack simultaneously, two people were injured as a result of a strike on an industrial enterprise in Dnipro.
Call for conservation and restoration prospects
The head of the Dnipropetrovsk RMA, Oleksandr Ganzha, appealed to residents who still have electricity to consume power economically. According to him, disciplined consumption in the face of power shortages determines the stability of the entire regional energy system. DTEK notes that the timeframe for full restoration of power supply depends on the cessation of attacks and access for repair crews to damaged facilities. Currently, power engineers continue their work under limited safety conditions.
