Amidst ongoing economic instability and the need to adapt Ukraine's pension system, the Pension Fund (PFU) has clarified an important mechanism for citizens to increase their future payments. According to information published by RBC-Ukraine, retirees who have reached the established age have the right to voluntarily defer the registration of their pension. This decision allows for a significant increase in the monthly allowance amount through accumulated coefficients for each full month of continued employment.

Mechanism for increasing pension through deferral

The essence of the proposed mechanism is that each full month of insurance service worked after reaching retirement age increases the size of the future pension. It is important to note that increases are not applied for incomplete months—only fully worked periods are taken into account. This encourages citizens who are willing and able to continue working due to their health status to not register for a pension immediately upon reaching the age limit.

For example, if a person delays pension registration for 70 months (almost six years), the base payment amount will increase by 52.5 percent. This is a significant addition that can substantially improve a retiree's financial situation in the long term. This approach allows not only for increasing personal income but also for reducing the burden on the pension fund in the short term.

Insurance service requirements in 2026

The Pension Fund draws attention to several important nuances that must be considered when planning pension registration. In particular, the pension is assigned taking into account the insurance service on the day of application. In 2026, 32 years of insurance service are required to assign a pension by age. This requirement remains unchanged and must be met regardless of whether the citizen decides to defer pension registration or not.

Thus, even if a person plans to increase the pension amount through deferral, they must ensure that their insurance service meets the established requirements. This is especially relevant for those who have gaps in employment or worked unofficially.

Additional supplements for certain categories

In addition to the possibility of increasing the pension through deferral of registration, there are other mechanisms for receiving additional payments. For example, certain categories of retirees, including mothers of many children, may receive an additional supplement of 35-40 percent without annual indexation. This decision was announced on August 13 and is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable layers of the population.

Furthermore, earlier in June, a lawyer explained the algorithm of action for those liable for military service if discrepancies arise between the paper military ID and the state registry due to a technical glitch. Such errors can become grounds for forced delivery to the Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC), which is particularly relevant in the context of mobilization.

Contradictory data

It is important to note that with the same work experience, the pension amount for Ukrainians can differ significantly. This is because the final sum depends on the official salary and the established service coefficient. On August 12, RBC-Ukraine wrote about this, pointing out the need for careful planning and taking into account all factors when registering for a pension.

Thus, although the mechanism of deferring pension registration provides the opportunity to increase payments, it requires a careful approach and consideration of all nuances. Citizens are advised to consult with Pension Fund specialists to obtain full and up-to-date information.
