Russia repeatedly attacked a Kyivstar building in Kyiv Oblast: equipment damaged, service remains operational

On September 17, a Russian attack in Kyiv Oblast damaged a building housing equipment of the Kyivstar operator. The company announced this in a post on Threads, as cited by RBC-Ukraine. This is already the second strike this month on the operator's telecom infrastructure objects, indicating a sustained trend of attacks on Ukraine's critical communications infrastructure.

Repeated strike on communications infrastructure

According to the press service, the adversary's target this time was again the Kyivstar building in the Kyiv region, where the company's technical equipment is located. The operator emphasized that the attack was carried out as part of the ongoing Russian strikes on Ukraine's critical infrastructure and that such incidents are being recorded with increasing frequency, forcing the operator to constantly assess risks to its facilities.

Network status and personnel safety

Kyivstar assured that no employees were harmed as a result of the September 17 attack, and services for subscribers are being provided without changes. The network is operating in normal mode, and no service disruptions have been recorded. The company specifically noted that the safety of personnel and the continuity of subscriber service are the top priorities.

Context: a series of attacks on telecom objects

Recall that on September 11, the occupiers also damaged the Kyivstar building with drone strikes: at that time, no personnel were injured, and the network continued to operate in normal mode. Thus, within a week the operator became the target of two attacks on its infrastructure. In parallel, on the morning of September 17, Russia carried out a new strike on "Zaporizhstal," as a result of which production facilities and the enterprise's infrastructure were damaged, and one employee was hospitalized.

Assessment of the consequences

The Kyivstar team has begun assessing the consequences of the attack. The operator is not disclosing details of the scale of the damage, limiting itself to stating that the building sustained damage and that it houses the company's equipment. The final damage assessment will be produced upon completion of the relevant work.
