As a result of another massive air attack by Russian forces on the Kyiv region, direct hits and destruction of social infrastructure have been recorded. Educational institutions in the Bucha and Fastov districts of the region came under enemy fire. This was officially announced by Timur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv Oblast State Administration, on his Telegram channel, emphasizing the targeted nature of strikes on peaceful objects.
Attack on a School in Bucha District
On the morning of October 8, 2026, an enemy shell exploded in the immediate vicinity of a secondary school in one of the territorial communities of the Bucha district. A powerful blast wave and shrapnel blew out window blocks in the building and severely damaged the school's sports ground and playground for elementary classes. The key factor preventing casualties among minors was the prompt reaction of the teaching staff: at the moment of the strike, children and teachers were in a protected shelter.
Strike on a Kindergarten and Casualties
Concurrently with the incident at the school, debris from a downed or exploded enemy target fell onto the territory of a kindergarten in the same region. Since the attack occurred in the morning, there were no pupils in the institution yet, which saved the lives of dozens of children. However, as a result of falling debris and the blast wave, kindergarten employees—a watchman and a supply manager—were injured. They were promptly provided with first aid on the spot, after which the victims were hospitalized in the district hospital.
Contradictory Data
It is worth noting that in the information space and official reports of various departments, there are certain discrepancies in estimates of the scale of destruction and the number of victims over the past day. While the regional administration reports injured kindergarten staff in the Bucha district, monitoring groups and independent sources (in particular, Liga.net and ZN.ua) record a wider range of destruction across five districts of the region in their reports, including damage to warehouses, residential buildings, and reports of severe consequences from ballistic missile strikes. Experts continue to verify incoming data.
Context of Recent Shelling in Kyiv Region
The current attack continues the grim trend of regular strikes by Russian troops on peaceful settlements in the Kyiv region. Thus, just a few days earlier, on the evening of October 2, as a result of a raid by enemy kamikaze drones on Gostomel, four people were injured at once, including an eight-year-old girl. Local authorities and international human rights organizations qualify such actions as war crimes aimed at intimidating the civilian population and destroying Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
