The SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General have indirectly charged the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, in connection with the massive strike on Kyiv on the night of July 2, 2026.

In the evening of August 21, Russian forces struck the settlement of Tokarevka in the Mykolaiv region: four civilians were killed, including three children aged 11–12. August 22 was declared a day of mourning in the region.

EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Materanova urged the world to speak out loudly about Russia's killing of civilians after a nighttime attack on Kyiv in which, according to her data, at least 13 people were killed.
