In the center of Mykolaiv, the SBU counterintelligence service thwarted the activities of a Russian agent who was preparing an assassination attempt on a Ukrainian serviceman using a homemade bomb. The culprit was detained at the scene of the crime while trying to place an explosive device under the defender's car.
According to the investigation, recruitment took place through Telegram channels. The agent turned out to be a mobilized man from the Bachtanka district, who deserted his unit and began looking for ways to earn money. It was there that representatives of Russian special services approached him.
From reconnaissance to assassination attempt
After recruitment, the man conducted thorough reconnaissance near the potential victim's car and informed his handler of his readiness for the terrorist act. Subsequently, he received the coordinates of a stash, retrieved a homemade explosive device from there, and attempted to install it under the car of a Ukrainian defender, but the culprit was caught "red-handed".

The scheme with Starlink terminals
In addition to preparing the terrorist attack, investigators established that Russian special services had tasked him with registering satellite Starlink terminals. Initially, the culprit registered one of them and passed the corresponding data to his handler.
Later, he tried to involve his wife and ten other people in the illegal registration of terminals, who agreed to provide their passport details in exchange for money. According to the investigation, the Russians planned to use access to Starlink to correct rocket, aviation, artillery, and drone strikes on the southern front.
Consequences and punishment
During searches, a smartphone was seized from the detainee, through which he maintained contact with his Russian handler. The illegally registered Starlink has been blocked. The detainee was informed of suspicion of treason committed under martial law, as well as attempted commission of a terrorist act.
He is currently in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
