Restrictions on the operation of the Starlink satellite network continue to have a critical impact on hostilities in Ukraine, posing a threat not only to logistics and long-range missions, but also to air defense. According to Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to the President of Ukraine known by the call sign "Flash", the new restrictions effectively deprive the Ukrainian military of an effective tool for intercepting high-speed targets.

Critical Vulnerability of Interception Systems

According to Beskrestnov, Starlink terminals are integrated into the most effective modern solutions designed to protect Ukrainian airspace from jet-powered Shaheds and other high-speed drones. The problem is that upon reaching certain speed indicators, communication in the Starshield network begins to disappear, making it impossible to control interceptor drones at critical moments of combat.

Experts and military personnel note that technical restrictions are activated at speeds exceeding 160 km/h, but in some combat zones, such as the Huliaipole direction, failures are recorded already at 110–120 km/h. This leads to the disruption of combat missions, the loss of expensive equipment, and the inability to repel massive enemy air strikes.

Contradictory Data

While officials and military experts report the sudden and unannounced implementation of severe restrictions by SpaceX, representatives of certain AFU units indicate that failures may be related to the technical features of communication protocols under high overloads. Nevertheless, the fact remains that these restrictions critically impact the effectiveness of high-speed unmanned aerial vehicles produced in Ukraine.

Consequences for Ukraine's Security

The current situation requires immediate diplomatic and technical intervention at the level of international partners. Without the restoration of stable communication at high speeds, Ukraine risks losing one of the few asymmetric responses to the new tactics of air strikes using jet unmanned aerial vehicles, which will require a complete review of the frontline air defense architecture.
