On the afternoon of August 1, Russian forces struck Odesa using attack drones. Preliminary data indicates that one of the drones hit a multi-story residential building in the city center. Information on casualties and the extent of the damage is being verified.
Situation on the ground
The attack was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Kiper, in his Telegram channel. All emergency services are currently working at the scene of the incident. While exact figures on casualties and damage are not yet available, the fact of a hit on a residential area has been confirmed.
Context of the massive attack
The incident in Odesa occurred against the backdrop of a large-scale nighttime attack by Russia on Ukrainian territory. In the night of August 1, the enemy launched 35 missiles and 185 attack drones at the country. Air defense forces managed to shoot down only one ballistic missile out of the 27 launched.
The main strike hit the Kyiv region, but Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions were also subjected to shelling. In the capital, according to authorities, damage and fires were recorded in five districts: Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Pecherskyi.
Consequences of the strike on Kyiv
The results of the massive attack on Kyiv were tragic: nine people were killed and another 30 were injured as a result of the strikes. Among the injured are four children. The situation in other regions remains tense, and air defense forces continue to repel enemy attempts to breach the defense.
