On the evening of July 14, Sumy once again became a target of Russian aggression. This time, the strikes were carried out using cluster munitions and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The attack hit a residential area on the outskirts of the city, resulting in damage to private homes and casualties.
Scale of Destruction and Threat to the Population
According to preliminary data provided by the Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA), Oleksandr Hryhorov, the strikes were directed directly at residential districts. The Russian army used cluster munitions, which pose a particular danger due to the large number of unexploded submunitions.
Hryhorov warned residents of the critical danger at the site of the attack: "Unexploded ordnance may remain on the streets near the impact site. Do not approach suspicious objects and do not touch them." Currently, all necessary services are working at the scene, conducting surveys, eliminating the consequences, and neutralizing explosive devices.
Casualties and Injured: Children Among the Wounded
The consequences of the attack were severe for the civilian population. Five injured people were hospitalized. Among them are two women and a man with injuries who are under medical observation. Two other men were transferred to outpatient treatment after examination.
The situation worsened when the Acting Head of the Sumy City Council, Artem Kobzar, reported that the number of injured had risen to seven. According to him, two of them are in critical condition. Of particular concern is the fate of a child: an 11-year-old boy was diagnosed by doctors with an acute situational reaction to stress caused by the horror of the explosions.
The Cycle of Violence Continues
This is not the only attack on Sumy in recent times. On the evening of July 11, Russian forces struck the city, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Five people were killed and 30 were injured. Now, just three days later, the city has been hit again, confirming that the threat to residents remains real and constant.
