The legendary Toyota Avalon sedan continues to thrive in the Chinese automotive market. While the model was discontinued in the US after 2022 due to declining demand for traditional sedans, it remains in production in China at the FAW Toyota joint venture. Recently, it was revealed that the model has undergone its third facelift.

Information about the update appeared in the database of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. This is the third update in the last two years: the first facelift took place in 2022, the second in July 2024. Now, the car has received significant exterior changes inspired by the brand's latest models.

Design in the Spirit of Toyota Crown

The appearance of the updated Avalon has become bolder and more modern. Designers decided to combine the styling of the latest Toyota Camry and the prestigious rear-wheel-drive Toyota Crown. The front of the car has undergone the most noticeable metamorphoses: a new C-shaped LED lighting system and a massive radiator grille with vertical slats have appeared. Vertical air curtains have also been added, and the front bumper has been modernized.

The side profile of the sedan has remained practically unchanged, however, new 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels have been developed for the model, adding freshness to the car.

Special attention was paid to the rear of the body. The Avalon received new split taillights, and the model name inscription was moved from the LED strip to the center of the trunk lid. In addition, the shape of the rear bumper has changed, into which a license plate area is now integrated.

Engines and Fuel Efficiency

According to documents from the Chinese regulator, buyers will be offered two versions of the car, differing in body length — 4990 and 5055 mm. Both modifications are equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a power of 152 hp. One of the versions is supplemented by a hybrid powertrain, the total power of which reaches 186 hp.

The main trump card of the hybrid version is high fuel efficiency. According to preliminary data, the average fuel consumption is only 4.31 liters per 100 km. This indicator makes the updated Toyota Avalon one of the most economical sedans in its class.

Thus, Toyota continues to adapt the model to the specific requirements of the Chinese market, offering buyers a combination of premium design and advanced fuel-saving technologies.
