Tusk: Poland expects intensified Russian actions in the coming weeks and months

Polish authorities expect Russia to step up its activity in the coming weeks and months, with the escalation that began near the Ukrainian-Polish border entering a new phase. This was stated by Prime Minister Donald Tusk after a special meeting at the Government Security Center, according to RBK-Ukraine, citing the Polish portal Goniec.pl.

Speaking after the closed session, the head of the Polish government emphasized that Russian activity is getting ever closer to the Polish border. "Escalation by the Russian Federation has become a fact, and its examples are getting closer and closer to our border," Tusk said. According to him, Polish and allied services had warned in advance of a likely intensification of Moscow's actions, including attempts to disrupt the operation of Ukrainian border crossings.

Expected scenarios and heightened operational mode

The prime minister noted that Warsaw had information from its own and allied services about a possible escalation, and that attempts to paralyze border crossings were not the first such incident: a similar one had been observed in Moldova. "We knew that the Russian plan would include attempts to disorganize, paralyze and, possibly, even destroy Ukrainian border crossings — so this concerns our country as well," Tusk said. He added that Poland cannot rule out the escalation spreading to its own territory and must take into account the most adverse scenarios of events.

Against the backdrop of the Russian attack near the Ukrainian-Polish border, Warsaw intends to review the organization of traffic through border crossings. Tusk ordered the search for ways to speed up border crossing and to prevent the accumulation of vehicles. The prime minister emphasized that in the coming weeks and months Poland will operate in a heightened mode and significantly strengthen security measures, as it expects further activity on the part of Russia.
