Ukraine has resumed operations on unique routes where the main staff are children. Children's railways in Kyiv, Lviv, Rivne, and Dnipro have opened for navigation, offering passengers a chance to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of adventure under the guidance of young railway apprentices.
These small, yet fully functional trains have become a favorite leisure spot for families with children. Passengers can observe how young engineers, conductors, and ticket clerks handle their duties, adhering to all rules and regulations accepted in the major railway system.
How to plan a trip and buy tickets
Travel documents can now be obtained in a convenient online format. To do this, simply visit the official website of the respective children's railway and follow a few simple steps.
Organizers remind passengers of important safety rules: children up to 12 years of age, inclusive, may travel only in the company of adults. For group trips consisting of 10 children, the presence of at least one accompanying adult is mandatory.
Seasonality and carriage selection
Children's railways operate in two seasons: from May to October and from December to February. It is best to check the current schedule on official resources before visiting.
Passengers are offered a choice of comfort levels. Depending on the city and the availability of rolling stock, you can choose:
- General carriage;
- Retro carriage without air conditioning;
- "Lux" carriage with air conditioning.

Each of the four children's railways has its own unique coordinates and access methods:

Development of "Ukrzaliznytsia" family transport services
Alongside the opening of children's routes, the national carrier "Ukrzaliznytsia" continues a large-scale modernization to increase passenger comfort. The company is updating its rolling stock and expanding its range of services.
New domestically produced carriages have already been deployed on popular routes to Uzhhorod and Dnipro. These compartments feature additional conveniences for children and passengers occupying upper berths. Furthermore, as part of the development of family transport services, three new children's carriages with special equipment have been sent to the routes.
Passengers should note that rules for free travel for children and age restrictions vary significantly depending on the type of trip — domestic or international.
