Ukrainian defense technology company DevDroid has announced the deployment of a new reconnaissance and strike complex — the Droid TW 40. The vehicle has already undergone official codification and received approval for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This new model represents a significant step forward in the development of robotic systems designed for infantry fire support and the destruction of enemy fortifications.

Technical specifications and combat capabilities

The new complex is based on a six-wheeled mobile platform, which ensures high mobility in difficult conditions. The main weapon of the Droid TW 40 is the Wolly 40 combat module, equipped with an automatic 40mm Mk 19 grenade launcher. This solution allows the robot to operate effectively from both open and covered firing positions.

According to technical specifications, the declared firing range is up to 1.5 kilometers. To improve accuracy, the system is equipped with a built-in ballistic computer, a thermal imager for target detection at any time of day, and a coordinate guidance system. Developers position the vehicle as a means of combating enemy manpower, shelters, and lightly armored vehicles.

Off-road capability and autonomy

One of the key features of the Droid TW 40 is its ability to overcome complex terrain. The robot is designed to operate on rough terrain, in marshy areas, on sand, snow, and rocky sections. Additionally, the platform is capable of crossing shallow water obstacles.

The dynamic characteristics of the vehicle are also impressive: the maximum acceleration speed is 13 km/h. The range varies depending on the terrain type: up to 70 km on hard surfaces and up to 50 km on cross-country terrain. In standby mode, the robot can function for up to 120 hours, allowing it to hold a position for a long time without recharging.

Control system and communications

Control of the combat module and platform movement is carried out through the universal Droid Box system. It provides the operator with a single interface for controlling all functions of the machine. An important aspect is the support for six types of communication, including radio channels, LTE, and satellite communication. This guarantees the ability to control the robot even in conditions of complex radio electronic environments.

Comment from developers

DevDroid CEO Yuriy Poritsky noted that the creation of a complex with a 40mm grenade launcher was a logical continuation of the product line. Previously, the company produced systems with 7.62mm and 12.7mm calibers, as well as offering tracked platform options.

«This gives the military a wider choice of solutions for various combat tasks, types of terrain, and conditions of application», — emphasized Poritsky. The appearance of the Droid TW 40 expands the arsenal of Ukrainian units, providing a flexible tool for carrying out fire support and reconnaissance tasks.
