Ukrainian defense industry has taken a new step in the development of missile armaments. According to sources, a test of a domestically developed ballistic missile was conducted in the country, the type of which remains secret for now.

The fact of the tests was reported by former Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov in his Telegram channel. The publication was confirmed by data from the «Military» portal. According to the former minister, the project was developed directly within the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense.

Tests on the Day of Government Resignation

The date of the test adds special resonance to the event. According to Fedorov, the test took place on July 14 — the very day the government's resignation was announced. The official emphasized that active work was being carried out on the project, however, he did not disclose the specific name of the missile complex.

Experts from the «Military» portal analyzed the statement and concluded that it most likely refers not to the FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles being developed by Fire Point. At the moment, according to available data, the FP-9 project remains to complete testing of the solid-fuel rocket engine.

Expert Theories: Sapsan or a New Project?

Due to the lack of official names, analysts suggest that Fedorov may have been referring to the «Sapsan» operational-tactical missile complex. It was previously reported that serial production of this complex was scheduled to begin in 2025.

This scenario is confirmed by statements from the country's top leadership. In June 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced active preparations for the mass production of domestic «Sapsan» ballistic missiles. In December 2025, Ukraine saw a surge in activity in the development of missile armaments: improvements to the «Sapsan» OTMK, «Olya» MLRS, and other systems continued.

Contracts and Future Plans

The development of the missile industry is supported at the state level. In March, the Defense Procurement Agency concluded long-term contracts with Ukrainian manufacturers of cruise and ballistic missiles. According to the terms of the agreements, supply under these contracts should begin partially already in the current year.

Thus, the testing of a new missile, even without an official name, indicates the continuous movement of Ukrainian industry towards the creation of its own strategic armaments.
