Weather in Ukraine on October 20 and in the coming days is expected to be contrasting in terms of both precipitation distribution and air temperatures. Forecasters from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrHMC) note that the synoptic pattern of the current workweek will continue to be influenced by southern cyclonic activity, but its activity is gradually decreasing, while the influence of a high atmospheric pressure area is expanding from the northeast into the country. Below is a detailed forecast for October 20 and for the days from October 21 to October 23.

October 20: Partly Cloudy, Mostly Dry

According to the UkrHMC forecast, partly cloudy weather is expected across Ukraine on October 20. No precipitation is predicted for the rest of the territory. Winds will be from the east or southeast at 7–12 meters per second. For Kyiv and the Kyiv region, forecasters also expect partly cloudy weather with no significant precipitation.

Workweek: Cyclone Loses Strength, High Pressure Builds

Throughout the workweek (October 20–23), the weather in many regions will still be affected by southern cyclonic activity centered over the northwestern Black Sea. At the same time, the precipitation caused by it is expected to be of significantly lower intensity and over a smaller area than in recent days, as the cyclonic system is already losing activity. Simultaneously, the influence of a high atmospheric pressure area is gradually spreading over Ukraine from a northeastern direction.

Day-to-Day Forecast: Where and When Rains Will Occur

On Wednesday, October 21, occasional light rain is expected in Ukraine, excluding the western and southwestern regions. On Thursday, October 22, the weather will be mostly dry. On Friday, October 23, rain is forecasted in the western regions, as well as Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Odesa regions, and during the daytime hours in Mykolaiv region as well.

Weekly Temperature Background

According to the forecast, air temperatures may warm up to +21 degrees Celsius in certain regions during the workweek. Forecasters emphasize that the distribution of precipitation and temperature values will be uneven across the country, so the contrast between regions will persist. Previously, the UkrHMC also drew attention to the water regime of rivers: a water deficit persists in a number of basins until the end of the month, where the third danger level has already been declared.
