Modern warfare demonstrates an unprecedented increase in the role of unmanned systems, but they will not be able to completely replace classic heavy armored vehicles. This opinion was expressed by Gennadiy Khirhiy, CEO of Ukr Armo Tech, in a recent interview, emphasizing that unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and manned armored cars perform completely different tactical tasks on the battlefield.
Balance of Power on the Battlefield
According to the head of the manufacturing enterprise, where a routine or dangerous task can be effectively solved by a robot, sending a heavy armored vehicle with a crew there is impractical and risky. However, there are specific combat scenarios where human presence and the maximum level of protection remain critically important factors for the successful completion of the mission and saving lives.
Logistics vs. Evacuation
As a clear example, the expert cited the difference between logistics operations and the rescue of the wounded. If the delivery of ammunition, food, or equipment to the front line using UGVs is an ideal and safe solution, then during the evacuation of wounded soldiers, at a certain stage, specialized protected medical transport is still required.
Philosophy of Military Application
Gennadiy Khirhiy draws a direct parallel with the development of other types of weapons, noting that the advent of new technologies does not cancel the old ones, but only complements them. "A UGV does not cancel an armored vehicle just as a drone did not cancel artillery," summarizes the director of Ukr Armo Tech, pointing out the need for a comprehensive and competent combination of various types of equipment.
