China's BYD entered the top five largest automakers in the world for the first time at the end of the third quarter of 2026, selling 1.32 million cars and overtaking the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi alliance.

For the first time in its 31-year history, WardsAuto has excluded all pure gasoline engines from its top 10 best engines list. All 2026 laureates are electrified: four EVs and six hybrids chosen from 26 US market nominees.

Tesla has unveiled the production Roadster with a vacuum downforce system and SpaceX rocket thrusters. The car demonstrated flight and landing at a presentation featuring the Optimus robot in the driver's seat. Production starts in 2028.
