Serbia has raised its nationwide terror threat level to the highest after a knife attack on a police officer near the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The attacker was shot dead, and authorities are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.

A Serbian police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade was stabbed by a minor attacker but shot him dead in self-defense. Serbian authorities have raised the terrorist threat level to maximum.

The Israeli MFA confirmed a failed terrorist attack near the embassy in Belgrade: a teenager with two knives attacked a guard while shouting 'Allahu Akbar'. The officer shot the attacker dead; no diplomats were injured.

Ratko Mladić was buried in Belgrade with military honours and three volleys; ministers and Vučić's son attended the ceremony. The EU and the Council of Europe condemned the heroisation, complicating Serbia's accession to the Union.

Ana Brnabić, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, publicly proposed on 22 August to amend the Constitution to allow Aleksandar Vučić to run for a third presidential term after 2027. The opposition and the protest movement viewed the statement as an attempt to usurp power.
