EU countries failed to reach unanimity on a long-term extension of anti-Russian sanctions and agreed only to a one-week extension of the restrictions until 22 September. Meanwhile, an expansion of the list of sanctioned individuals is being prepared.

EU ambassadors in Brussels failed to agree on extending sanctions against Russia: Slovakia demands lifting restrictions on Usmanov and Fridman, while France proposes a compromise on a single name. The regime expires on 15 September.
