Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that on September 27, 2026, he will resign, after which he will join the pre-election campaign ahead of the snap parliamentary elections in October.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed that early parliamentary elections will be held on October 25, 2026. He will sign the decree dissolving the National Assembly on September 9 at noon.

Ana Brnabić, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, publicly proposed on 22 August to amend the Constitution to allow Aleksandar Vučić to run for a third presidential term after 2027. The opposition and the protest movement viewed the statement as an attempt to usurp power.
