Operational situation: emergency services at the limit of their capacity
According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) in Kyiv Oblast, over the past two days — since the first nighttime strike on August 27, 2026 — rescue units have extinguished 38 fires and dealt with the aftermath of enemy attacks. Over the same period, 20 air raid alerts were issued in the capital region, indicating the continuous nature of the shelling and that emergency services are operating at maximum load without a proper break to recover their forces.
Crews working under the threat of a "double strike"
Rescuers emphasize that the conditions for extinguishing fires at warehouse, logistics, and open areas after the fall of drone and missile debris are extremely difficult: firefighters are forced to constantly interrupt extinguishing efforts, take cover due to the threat of repeated combined strikes, and then return to bringing the fire under control. A characteristic example of such tactics was recorded in the Bilohorodka community, where after the first strike on the "Nova Poshta" warehouse facilities, the occupiers delivered two more strikes on the same location while the fire was still being extinguished on site.
SES appeal to residents: key points
In their official appeal, rescuers made three main points. First, upon discovering debris from shot-down UAVs, missiles, and unexploded ordnance, it is strictly forbidden to approach them — one must immediately report to the "101" and "102" hotlines. Second, without necessity, residents should not leave shelters and safe places, nor enter areas where the aftermath of shelling is being dealt with. Third, the SES called on people not to publish photo or video materials of air defense unit operations and fire-extinguishing positions until official statements from the authorities, in order to avoid creating additional risks and revealing the operational situation.
Context: the tactic of exhausting air defense and the population
Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andrii Kovalenko previously noted that attacks by reactive drones on Kyiv Oblast, which occur in waves and provoke prolonged air raid alerts, are aimed at exhausting Ukraine's air defense system and the population itself. That is precisely why, according to rescuers, observing safety rules during prolonged alerts becomes not a recommendation but a condition for preserving the lives and health of citizens in the capital region.
