Amid the ongoing transformation of Ukraine's energy system and the need to enhance its resilience, DTEK is demonstrating impressive growth in distributed generation. According to official data published on August 15, 2026, more than 2,700 green and distributed generation facilities were connected to the distribution system operators' networks of "DTEK Networks" in the first half of the current year. This figure indicates a fundamental shift in energy consumption strategy for both individuals and businesses striving for energy independence.
Dominance of Solar Energy and Growing Business Interest
The structure of new connections from January to June 2026 shows a clear leadership of renewable energy sources. The vast majority of new facilities are solar generation units: residential customers connected 2,728 solar power plants (SPPs). Legal entities also contributed by connecting another 11 SPPs. However, business is not limited to solar energy alone. The corporate sector continues to actively develop distributed generation using more complex and reliable solutions. Over six months, 14 gas-piston, gas-turbine, and cogeneration units, as well as five energy storage units, were connected to DTEK networks, which is critical for grid balancing.
Technological Breakthrough: First Hybrid Systems
Special attention in the first-half 2026 report is paid to technological innovations. This year, DTEK connected a hybrid system for the first time in its history, combining a solar power plant and a cogeneration unit. This solution represents a qualitative leap in power supply efficiency. A hybrid system allows consumers to flexibly use different generation sources depending on weather conditions and other factors. This approach not only optimizes costs but also significantly enhances the energy resilience of the facility, ensuring uninterrupted power supply even during periods of external grid instability.
Record Paces and Decentralization Strategy
According to Alina Bondarenko, General Director of "DTEK Networks," the dynamics of distributed generation development in 2026 are unprecedented. In six months, the number of connected facilities has already exceeded the figure for the entire year of 2024 and outpaced the development rates of 2025. "This indicates a growing interest from customers in ensuring their own energy resilience. At the same time, every new facility is another step towards decentralized energy," Bondarenko noted. Experts link this leap to the need for network modernization, which ensures the integration of green and distributed generation, strengthening regional energy resilience.
Winter Preparation and Massive Investments
Parallel to connecting new facilities, the company continues large-scale work to update existing infrastructure. It was previously reported that DTEK updated 37 energy network infrastructure facilities as part of preparations for the upcoming winter. In the context of the overall development strategy, DTEK is attracting significant funds for new energy projects, which the Cabinet of Ministers has recognized as flagship projects. Investments in thermal power plant and mine repairs, as well as in the development of distributed generation, form a comprehensive approach to ensuring the country's energy security in the long term.
