In Spain, Ukrainians planning to apply for temporary protection are facing new requirements when submitting documents. Specifically, this concerns the confirmation of data related to military registration, as well as documents proving the crossing of the Ukrainian border. RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing the Embassy of Ukraine in Spain.
New requirements for obtaining temporary protection
A message appeared in a Facebook group where Ukrainian refugees communicate regarding possible changes when obtaining temporary protection in Spain. The author of the post claims that during the asylum application process, a woman was required to have "Reserve+" status, as well as a stamp indicating she crossed the border from the Ukrainian side. The author notes that previously, such a stamp was not required.
The message also states that similar requirements may allegedly apply not only to Spain. However, specific confirmations regarding other countries are not provided in the publication.
Official clarifications from the Embassy of Ukraine
Against the backdrop of numerous inquiries from Ukrainians, the Embassy of Ukraine in Spain published clarifications regarding the situation. The diplomatic mission drew attention to Council Implementing Decision 2026/1912 of July 30, 2026, published on August 4. It extended the validity of the temporary protection regime for persons displaced from Ukraine until March 4, 2028.
At the same time, the embassy noted that in accordance with Article 2 of this decision, as of July 31, 2026, temporary protection will be granted only to persons who meet the military registration requirements in Ukraine and can provide the corresponding confirming documents.
Exceptions for those who already have status
At the same time, according to the embassy, this requirement does not apply to people who have continuously held and maintained temporary protection status in a specific EU member state until July 30, 2026.
To obtain clear clarifications on the practical application of the EU decision, the embassy sent an official inquiry to the Spanish side. The diplomatic mission noted that after receiving an official response, the relevant information will be published on the embassy's official resources.
Contradictory data
Thus, the embassy confirms the existence of inquiries from Ukrainians regarding new requirements, however, there are no final clarifications from the Spanish side regarding the procedure for their application yet. At the same time, in the Czech Republic, dozens of Ukrainians lost their right to temporary protection, which points to a possible tightening of rules in other EU countries.
The Polish government predicts an economic collapse without Ukrainians, which highlights the importance of the temporary protection issue for many European countries.
