In the night of July 20, the temporarily occupied Crimea became the target of a large-scale drone attack. Powerful explosions were heard in several cities on the peninsula, disrupting the night silence and causing serious consequences for the region's energy infrastructure.
Strike on the energy sector of the Southern Coast
One of the key targets was the "Privetnoye" 110/10 kV substation, located in the village of Privetnoye in the Alushta urban district. According to the "Crimean Wind" monitoring group, based on satellite imagery, a major fire broke out at the facility after the attack.
This substation is a critically important element of the "Krymenergo" company's power system. It is equipped with two power transformers with a total capacity of 50 MVA and is responsible for supplying electricity not only to the village itself but also to the Kanatskaya Gorge, as well as the resort and tourist zones of the Southern Coast of Crimea.
Chronology of events and consequences
According to reports from local residents and monitoring groups, explosions in the Alushta area were heard around midnight. At approximately 00:40, electricity was completely cut off in the city. Videos appeared on social media capturing an intense fire in the area of the "Alushta" substation against the backdrop of the night sky.
Reaction of the occupation authorities
Against the backdrop of the night attack, the peninsula administration decided to temporarily close traffic on the Crimean Bridge. This became another restriction on logistics in the region: previously, Ukrainian drones had already paralyzed traffic on key highways, hindering the transport of equipment and cargo. In addition, the authorities have already introduced a schedule of mobile communication restrictions for Crimean residents, which has significantly complicated life for the population.
