In August 2026, Ukraine will continue to pay a monthly pension supplement to certain categories of pensioners. The amount of the supplement is approximately 1,000 UAH. The Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) provides details on the appointment of payments and the conditions for receiving them.

Who is eligible for the "pension for special merits"

This refers to an additional payment appointed on top of the main pension — by age, disability, length of service, or due to the loss of a breadwinner. One of the key categories of recipients includes women who have given birth to and raised five or more children up to the age of six.

The amount of the supplement is tied to the subsistence minimum for non-working citizens. As of January 1, 2026, this indicator is set at 2,595 UAH. The supplement is calculated as a percentage of this amount — from 35% to 40%. In monetary terms, mothers of large families can expect a monthly supplement in the range of 908 to 1,038 UAH.

Early retirement

For women who have raised five or more children, the legislation provides for the possibility of early retirement — at the age of 50. At the same time, a mandatory condition is the presence of at least 15 years of insurance service, as well as meeting other legal requirements.

How to apply for the payment

It is important to understand: the supplement is not appointed automatically. To obtain the right to the supplement, it is necessary to personally contact the territorial body of the PFU with an application and a complete set of documents confirming the right to the payment.

Purchasing insurance service: is it worth it?

If one year of insurance service is missing to qualify for a pension by age, in 2026 it can be purchased for 45,656 UAH — a one-time payment. According to calculations, such expenses can be recouped within nine months after the start of receiving the pension due to monthly payments.

Obligations of pensioners when changing status

The PFU reminds: pensioners must independently notify the fund about dismissal from work or the closure of a sole proprietorship (FOP) within 10 days. The status of "non-working" is not assigned automatically.

Registration of a sole proprietorship is legally equated to employment. Therefore, even if entrepreneurial activity has actually ceased, it is not enough to simply stop working to change the status — an official record of the closure of the FOP in the state register is required.
